It was this gamification element of duolingo that invited trolls to the site, uninterested in any sort of serious language acquisition or collaborative participation.
I'm really looking forward to "Project X"

Upvotes and especially downvotes were the most negative aspects of Duo Immersion. Hope that doesn't happen here or at least not turn combative. Let's get on with translating and helping each other do it.

I am glad. It is much more enjoyable having a go at translating without all the Tier chasing, up-votes/down votes, points chasing etc. Just enjoy the collaborative process of especially the native speakers being able to correct one's attempts at translating! Thank you for all the hard work you are all doing!

Badges are designed to make people feel smart whether they really are or not. We're all smart and we know it, so they're completely unnecessary. My first thought when I saw this post was "Thank goodness!"
