Hi All,
I am very conscious that I have a number of followers - probably through the Immersion pilot project - and I have deliberately not reciprocated any of these, except for one.
This is in no way intended as a personal slight, but I don't understand the benefits and implications of following someone on ProBoards.
At the moment, I am working away from home and my mobile phone is already bombarded with notification emails from Duolingo, although I am getting ruthless with Discussion notifications, and now Communitytranslation. I expect this to get even worse as we start to roll out the new Immersion platform facility.
So two questions:
1) Does following someone increase the number of email notifications even further? And ...
2) If not, what are the benefits of following someone?
If 1) above is true, could someone take the time to copy and paste up a sample notification please, or point me to a link?
Thanks,

I don't know about the things you asked, but you can always disable the e-mail notifications. You'll still get a notification when you come back to the site, unless you diable those too.

There are no e-mail notifications. Instead small numbers indicating the amount of notifications appear in the blue bar at the top of the page above the word Profile. Go to Following in your Profile and you can see your activity feed. In Friends, also in your Profile, you will find out which of your friends are using this site right at that moment. It also works as a shortcut into your friends' Profiles.

Thanks, Hi Sussex, Go to your Profile -> Edit Profile -> Notifications. You can control it from there. Hope that helps, Kim PS Under "Notifications, people who follow each other come up as "friends" but, as far I know, you can't be selective. So, if you do want to get email notifications from one member then only follow that member back.

Me too, and to be honest, I've never actually followed people on proboards because - well, you can see the conversation on the board and if they want to send you personal message, they do. It never seemed to make any difference and I never wanted to leave out someone I liked in small communities. If this gets unmanageably large, maybe I should, but it hadn't occurred to me to do it here. The only possible usefulness I can see is [assuming we have the feature switched on here] if people want to and can go with the option to let 'friends only' see that you are currently online.

Salut Luscinda,
That option isn't currently available - it is either be visible to all or invisible to all but select staff. I don't even know if that option is available here - you'd have to ask Jo.
Cheers, Kim
