So apparently everyone in this discussion has forgotten that Russian exists... R-U-S-S-I-A-N <3 I am in awe that people can cope with the Duo courses in other alphabets. I learnt a little Russian at school, even have a 'qualification' in it but when I tried to revive it on Duo I couldn't cope with being expected to know how to type in Cyrillic. Same with Greek, I can decipher it (or used to be able to) but it's quite an undertaking to learn a new keyboard and you do have to be taught to type again up to a point.

knittingirl I have not seen you translating Latin lately. There are still untranslated texts in my file and I have more to add. Were the texts too easy for you or have you just been busy?

Well, you can actually type transliterations but I'd strongly advise against it. Learning the keyboard is a bit of a challenge but it's worth it. What some people do is buy Cyrillic keyboard stickers (they're easy to find on Amazon), or you can pull up an on-screen keyboard until you've learned the layout, or there are sites you can use to practise typing, and learn the keyboard at the same time. You could look at this thread, for example: www.duolingo.com/comment/11435810If you want to learn Russian, and you know you do just ask, I've got lots of useful tips.

I got an A in my Russian exam, I did. :-D You had to be there to realise how funny that actually is.

luscinda Flemish is close enough. I'll take it. =D Well, Duo doesn't indulge us with that, does it. But I have only been to the Netherlands for one evening whereas I do sometimes find myself in Belgium. Which is a Good Thing.

luscinda Duo doesn't indulge us with many of the things for which we wish and request *cough cough FINNISH*, but instead gives us fictional languages in the Incubator. It's sad.

luscinda the Russian alphabet really isn't as hard as people think. For me at least, it was just a few hours over the course of maybe three days on a memrise course (which I can provide the link to if anyone is interested), although to be fair, I already knew the Greek alphabet, which helped a bit. Nobody should let the Cyrillic discourage them! Now, the grammar on the other hand can be... shall we say interesting?

knittingirl It wasn't learning the Cyrillic alphabet that was so difficult for me, but learning how to type in it was what was difficult. I'm still not proficient at it; I just have about twelve of the letters' positions on my keyboard memorized, and I have to press random keys until I find the other letters. HEBREW is especially brutal, though.

Now, the grammar on the other hand can be... shall we say interesting? I prefer to say fascinating, enchanting, addictive... Camden Ferguson you could check that Duo discussion I linked to above for practice with the keyboard.
