All I get from Duolingo recently is "so-and-so" is following you. I mean, seriously, does anyone really care about the people who are "following you"? They are following who knows how many other people. I used to go to Duolingo every day to check out the activity of the intelligent people I followed. And even if I didn't respond, I learned a lot from their conversations. One thing occurring here is that most conversations are private. So I can't butt in any more And other people can't butt in to my private conversations. I miss that...

Anijo (ThanKwee) In a number-fueled society, often many do care about the people that are following them. I don't follow nearly as many people as are following me, as ends up being the case for a lot of us that have been at Duo for a while and didn't want our streams filled with nonsense. Not saying that everyone whom I was not following participated in a bunch of nonsense, but you get what I'm saying. =) Also, welcome to CT!

Trofaste - regarding the intent to give warning - are you sure they said that? Luis did say it happened earlier than they wanted, but I never actually saw him say that there was any intention of making a public announcement prior to removing it. I think I can destroy the "intent to give warning" argument even if he did say that. Why? Because I know that the week before, moderators and course contributors were notified by Duo that activity was going to be taken away, with an announcement coming the next week. It may have been early, but they were able to give moderators a week's notice, so I don't believe they couldn't give notice to users. I got the message from one of the mods, indirectly at first and then directly, so I was able to give a bit of advance warning to some of my friends. Sorry, I know I'm very late to the party :-)

No, I don't give two hoots who is following me, and I'm still getting notices almost daily that new people are following me who I don't know! I fail to see the point. Especially after the loss of Activity. And now we can't even surreptitiously leave messages that will be sent via email. Writing on a blank wall is now completely gone too. We're completely cut off from those friends that didn't join the forum and with whom we didn't exchange email prior to the removal of Activity. I miss that too, Anijo. I miss eavesdropping on some delicious conversations and occasionally butting in on someone's wall, a friend of a friend perhaps, to add my $.02. Or the conversations where we all piled in on someone's wall to add bits of nonsense, music, interesting links. Those wonderful conversations I saved in my email. Sometimes I even go back and read some of them to smile and laugh. I really miss that!! It looks like followers do not even show up any more on Duolingo. I really thought that the new version would be out by now... Kind of blows up the "we're taking Activity away, but don't worry, a shiny replacement will be there soon" argument, doesn't it? Or maybe my definition of soon is radically different than Mr. von Ahn's. Sigh.
