Hello, I thought I will be better to gather here all the questions and suggestions here to improve this site. I hope I do well. Here the first question : how do they do those who don't know the English enough to write and read here !?! That is not a little barrier ?

That is another thing we are looking into doing. There is a way to get other language versions of the forum and possibly add google translate to the site as well. I'm not sure how complicated this will be...

Thank you. They've killed the boards on Duo by trying to ringfence them - there's not a single thread that's worth reading now and all the dross comes in because nature abhors a vacuum, even on the intehwebz.

daughterofalbion Yes, we have an English category for translating into English from any language. For any given language, there is probably close to as much or more interest in translating from that language to English as vice versa. In other words, if there's enough English -> French to justify a separate category, is there not enough French -> English to justify a separate category?

daughterofalbion theron126 The problem is that too many categories make the main page a mess. However we are currently in the process of renaming the Language categories and Translation boards and adding sub-folders into the Translation boards that will bring more clarity and visibility to options already available.

However we are currently in the process of renaming the Language categories and Translation boards and adding sub-folders into the Translation boards that will bring more clarity and visibility to options already available. One thing that occurred to me was putting both Russian -> English and English -> Russian into one category - but then if someone adds, say, Russian -> Swedish, which category does that go in? Unless you're going to try to keep both places up to date, nobody knows where to look for anything any more, so that's a bad idea. So you're right - unless you want a category for every language pair, which is messy, you need to divide into categories either by source language or by target language. I do wonder if by source language would be better. But adding subfolders should be more than good enough.

Hello,
In fact, the combinations are very varied and the demands for some of them will be pretty rare. We could create a folder or sub-folder where there would have all the rest of combinations. In the title of new subject we could add which combination is :
- Spanish -> Swedish - German -> Russian
Etc.
Like we have a first language ( the one of the document ) and another language ( the one in which the translation will be made ) we can take in count the language of the document for place where will be this one.
For example :
- Spanish -> Swedish : in the Spanish board ; - German -> Russian : in the German board.
Etc.
Is it the more practical methode, I'm not sure. It's a track...

theron126 For the time being, since there is so much to set up and learn now, I think that it is that we keep our categories as "Target Language" not "Source Language." That change might be possible in the future, but would be too much of an undertaking right now. @lakapsule Yes, that is what we are working on today! :·) We are adding sub-folders to each language category with combinations that we believe are more common and also a sub-folder labeled "Other Languages" for rarer combinations.

@jothelan I was thinking the other way around - it's easier to change it while everything's still new. The longer you leave it the way it is the more posts there are in each category, the more people get set in their ways, the harder it becomes to change. However, I don't have any strong feelings, so don't change it just for me (not that I thought you'd do that anyway) :-)

Hello,
Why is there a space of advertising in the top ?

lakapsule44 That just showed up for me yesterday as well. Since Proboards, the name of the company that offers free forum sites like ours, is free to their members, they pay the bills by advertisement. Hey, and congratulations on your 50th post! You're officially not a "New Member" anymore!
